FIRE & EARTH
is a show conceived with the aim of joining and highlighting the qualities of two great flamenco artists who contain, in their personalities, the qualities of these two elements. Fire, which is represented by the dancer Manuel Fernández Montoya
“El Carpeta”, he is a young, vigorous, enthusiastic, creative, adventurous, passionate, stirring and impulsive performer. Earth, in the figure of the singer Miguel Flores Quirós “Capullo de Jerez”, he is an experienced, consistent, determined, resistant, firm, poised and realistic performer. As with Fire and Earth, they are not only extraordinary individually but also unique when joining in this fusion and transmutation of their art, under the artistic directorship of José Suárez “Torombo".
AL COMPÁS DEL ROMANCE
It is a show genuinely "jondo" in its simplicity, which aims to show in its beginning the three pillars that flamenco art is based on: singing, guitar playing and dance, explaining briefly the reasons why singing, guitar playing and dance are vital to the art of flamenco.
ZAMBOMBA / FIESTA FLAMENCA DE SANTIAGO
JOAQUÍN EL ZAMBO Y SU GENTE
Flamenco dancing is centred around the Barrio de Santiago, in the heart of Jerez and Joaquín El Zambo y su Gente is a symbol of all that is good.
They sung, dancers, jaleos, palmas with a source of emotional impact that only seems possible from the gypsies of Jerez de la Frontera.
If you like the flamenco, this is the most genuine that show you can not miss.
Zambombas are what make Christmas in Jerez so fun. These energetic parties are held from the beginning of December onwards. The level of formality varies, but generally a group of musicians sits in a circle and sings Christmas songs; the public gathers around and joins in. The essential instrument is the zambomba, which looks like a large terracotta urn with a skin lid. The stick attached to this skin is moved up and down to produce a distinctive sound.
JOSE DE LOS CAMARONES
Born in Jerez, from the “Plazuela” and brought up at the “Hoyanca”. His singing is wise, his voice clear and straightforward. In his performances he exactly interprets flamenco singing styles such as “bulerías”, “soleás”, “alegrías”, “fandangos”, “tarantas”, “tientos” or some “martinetes".
Not only a singer, but also composer, his austere teaching is deeply rooted in tradition, with the necessary background to evaluate and discern among the different options that flamenco can present in the way of possibilities, but, above all, when differentiating authenticity from mediocrity and substitute accordingly. At the antipathy of superficiality, his lyrics are full of intensity, his methodology and didactics are full of knowledge, technique and experience.”
Verses for Pepe Luis Vázquez, Manolete and other bullfighters join the passion of flamenco singing, dance and guitar playing in a show called “Tauroflamencura Poética”, programmed for small and medium-sized stages on which the actor Pepe Marín and the guitar player Manuel Lozano “El Carbonero” alternate. In some scenes, a young student of the Jerez Bullfighting School, Miguel Andrades, illustrates with his indoor bullfighting technique the verses dedicated to the Sevillian bullfighter Pepe Luis Vázquez. All this responds to the following four-line stanza: “Bulls and singing are/ two little twins/, who were tied by the plait/ of such blue black hair”.
CANTAR DEL PUEBLO ANDALUZ
The singer-songwriter Fernando Polavieja, the actor Pepe Marín and the guitar player Manuel Lozano “El Carbonero”, take part in this recital-concert, ideal for small stages. Alternatively, they interpret songs and verses by the most varied authors: Rafael Alberti, Gabriel Celaya, Carlos Edmundo de Ory, García Lorca, Antonio and Manuel Machado, Rafael Duyos, etc. Polavieja, author of the music, backed with texts, sings in the style of Aute –with whom he has recorded a CD homage to the poet of Cádiz Carlos Edmundo de Ory.
